Coming from a “non-horsey” background Douglas grew up in Wiltshire riding all the ponies and horses that no one else wanted to!!
He carried on riding and competing throughout his teens and went on to study equestrianism and business at further and higher education. During study he gained his BHSAI and stage IV, and when at Bishop Burton College was employed as a lecturer whilst still undertaking his full time HE course. He also rode on, captained and chef de quip’d the university riding team who went on to be bronze medallists at the BUSA National Championships and was subsequently selected to ride on the England/GB student teams 1998-2000.
Since leaving university in 2001, Douglas has managed, competed from and taught at dressage, eventing and showjumping yards. He has competed horses in BE up to Intermediate, showjumped up to 1.30m and dressage up to advanced medium.
In 2006 Douglas and Romarnic Stud’s Northern Inspiration have worked through the grades in BD to medium. Along the way they have qualified and been placed at the summer regional championships at Novice and elementary level, have become National BSPA Performance Horse Champion, CHAPS dressage champions and qualified for winter music championships at elementary with 82%!! In 2007, Douglas will be working with Romarnic Stud to produce and compete quality horses in affiliated competitions. |
